After his training at the Westphalia School of Acting in Bochum, he was engaged at renowned theaters such as the Schauspielhaus Bochum, Schauspiel Köln, and Theater in der Josefstadt. His roles include Wallenstein, Tartuffe, Harras, and Mephisto, among others. He became widely known to the public through „RTL Samstag Nacht“ (1993-1998), TATORT (1999-2001), and as Major Ribarski in the ZDF/ORF series „SOKO Donau/Wien“ (2005–2021).

For his achievements, the actor and musician received renowned awards, including the German Television Award, the Bambi, and the Austrian ROMY. For his portrayal of General Harras in Carl Zuckmayer's „The Devil's General,“ he also received the Austrian NESTROY Audience Award.

In addition to acting, Stefan Jürgens also pursues a career as a singer-songwriter and musician. He has released six studio albums since 2002. His new concert program „LIEBE!“ premiered in April at Vienna's Josefstadttheater. With this and other solo programs, including a Kurt Tucholsky program, Jürgens is intensively dedicated to acting and music.

Stefan Jürgens lives in Berlin and Brandenburg and has four children.
